[Free Participation] Hosting a Web Accessibility Seminar with Tsuruha Holdings

Kiva Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President: Kota Nojiri, hereinafter referred to as Kiva) will host a seminar titled "Web Accessibility Considered by Tsuruha Holdings" on July 18, 2024 (Thursday) at 12:00, featuring Mr. Iwata, the manager of the Media Promotion Department of Tsuruha Holdings Inc. (Headquarters: Sapporo City, Hokkaido, President: Jun Tsuruha, hereinafter referred to as Tsuruha Holdings) as a guest.

 

Starting April 1, 2024, the amended Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Note 1) will make the provision of reasonable accommodations (Note 2), which has been mandatory for administrative agencies and a matter of effort for businesses, now obligatory for businesses as well, making corporate responses urgent.

While a smooth environment for all people, including those with disabilities and the elderly, is required to access information and services provided on the web, web accessibility is still not well-known. According to a survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (Note 3), the proportion of Japanese companies using the internet is 99.7%, of which only 4.6% meet the JIS standards for web accessibility.

In this seminar, we welcome Mr. Iwata from Tsuruha Holdings, who has implemented web accessibility, to discuss the reasons for their efforts, how they implemented them, and future plans. We look forward to your participation.

※1 Act on the Elimination of Disability Discrimination
A law aimed at promoting the elimination of discrimination based on disability and realizing a society where all citizens coexist while mutually respecting each other's personalities and individualities without discrimination based on the presence or absence of disability.

※2 Provision of Reasonable Accommodations
If a person with a disability expresses the desire to 'remove social barriers', then necessary and reasonable measures should be taken to remove those barriers within a range that does not impose an excessive burden.

I joined Tsuruha Career Support in March 2013 and transferred in July of the same year to the Human Resources Recruiting Department of Tsuruha Holdings at headquarters. To strengthen recruitment, I completely revamped the hiring operations and was promoted to leader in May 2015. Later, my recognition for implementing online utilization in recruitment activities during the COVID-19 pandemic led to my appointment as the head of the newly established President's Office in April 2020 to promote DX across the entire group. Since January 2023, I have been responsible for media promotion for the entire group.

While still in university, I founded Puenten LLC, developed an agency business for Chiba blacksmith cutlery, and connected many blacksmith artisans with the food and beverage industry. Since 2019, I served as the head of new business development at a venture company, overseeing content marketing and the launch of EC sites, and experienced the sale of the business. Aspiring to create services used worldwide, I established Kiva Corporation in 2020, providing a reliable purchasing guarantee service 'proteger'. In December 2023, I began offering the web accessibility service 'Uniweb' to provide equal websites for everyone.

◾️What is Web Accessibility?

It is not a special accommodation only for the disabled or elderly, but anyone can be in the same situation as a disabled person.

• Temporary injury or illness (e.g., car accident with arm in cast and unable to use arm, eye disease with eye patch and blindness, etc.)
• Age-related changes
• Age-related vision loss (presbyopia, lens changes (yellowish, dark, blurred vision, etc.))
• Eye diseases common in middle-aged and older adults (cataracts, glaucoma, etc.)
  *About half of the patients in their late 70s have cataracts with yellowing changes.
• Age-related hearing loss
• Foreign travelers (if a foreigner who does not understand Japanese is struck by an earthquake while traveling, can he/she obtain evacuation information, etc.)
