2024/01/10

◾️ Background of the Release
According to the revised Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (Note 1), effective April 1, 2024, the provision of reasonable accommodations, which was previously an obligation for administrative agencies and a due diligence requirement for businesses, will also become mandatory for businesses.
While all people, including those with disabilities and the elderly, are seeking an environment where they can smoothly utilize information and services provided on the web, web accessibility is still not well-established. According to a survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (Note 2), the percentage of Japanese companies using the internet is 99.7%, but only 4.6% of them meet the JIS standards for web accessibility.
In response to many requests to first understand the status of their own sites for web accessibility compliance in situations such as those mentioned above, we have released the diagnostic report feature.
※1 Act on the Elimination of Disability Discrimination
A law aimed at promoting the elimination of discrimination based on disability and realizing a society where all citizens coexist while mutually respecting each other's personalities and individualities without discrimination based on the presence or absence of disability.

◾️ About the Diagnosis Feature
From the UniWeb management screen, you can confirm the diagnostic report regarding the web accessibility compliance of your site. The diagnosis can be easily performed in about 5 to 10 minutes, and compliance levels (A, AA, AAA) are displayed for each item. Additionally, specific coding correction methods are provided, allowing you to make necessary adjustments as needed.
◾️What is Web Accessibility?
It is not a special accommodation only for the disabled or elderly, but anyone can be in the same situation as a disabled person.
- Temporary injury or illness (e.g., car accident with arm in cast and unable to use arm, eye disease with eye patch and blindness, etc.)
- Age-related changes
- Age-related vision loss (presbyopia, lens changes (yellowish, dark, blurred vision, etc.))
- Eye diseases common in middle-aged and older adults (cataracts, glaucoma, etc.)
*About half of the patients in their late 70s have cataracts with yellowing changes. - Age-related hearing loss
- Foreign travelers (if a foreigner who does not understand Japanese is struck by an earthquake while traveling, can he/she obtain evacuation information, etc.)

◾️About UniWeb
UniWeb supports web accessibility features "on the day of deployment" by simply adding a single line of code to all web services.
In order to achieve equal website services for all, we want to put users in various situations, such as those with visual impairments or those who temporarily lose the use of their hands due to injury, in a position to understand correct information through various uses such as voice reading and contrast changes.
