Kiva Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President: Kota Nojiri, hereinafter Kiva) announces that it has started collaborating with Linkties Digital Co., Ltd. (Minato-ku, Tokyo, Representative Director: Atsushi Yoshikawa, hereinafter Linkties Digital) on the web accessibility tool 'Uniwave' business.

 

■Background of Collaboration

As of April 1, 2024, the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (*1) will enforce the provision of reasonable accommodations as an obligation for businesses, which had previously been required only for administrative agencies.

While all people, including those with disabilities and senior citizens, seek an environment where they can smoothly use information and services provided on the web, web accessibility remains unfamiliar, and according to a survey by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (*2), 99.7% of Japanese companies use the internet, but only 4.6% of them meet the JIS standards for web accessibility.

In response to the above situations, we initiated a collaboration with Linkties Digital to promote the implementation of web accessibility in companies.

It is not a special accommodation only for the disabled or elderly, but anyone can be in the same situation as a disabled person.

• Temporary injury or illness (e.g., car accident with arm in cast and unable to use arm, eye disease with eye patch and blindness, etc.)
• Age-related changes
• Age-related vision loss (presbyopia, lens changes (yellowish, dark, blurred vision, etc.))
• Eye diseases common in middle-aged and older adults (cataracts, glaucoma, etc.)
  *About half of the patients in their late 70s have cataracts with yellowing changes.
• Age-related hearing loss
• Foreign travelers (if a foreigner who does not understand Japanese is struck by an earthquake while traveling, can he/she obtain evacuation information, etc.)
