◾️ Background Comments on Implementation
Akira Yanagisawa, President and Executive Officer, Kitamura Co., Ltd.
Kitamura Co., Ltd. places great importance on providing equal access to content for all customers through the enhancement of accessibility. In response to the recent legal amendments regarding reasonable accommodation, we have implemented the UniWeb system from Kiva Co., Ltd. that complies with JIS X 8341-3:2016. UniWeb allows for easy updates due to legal changes and is the optimal solution for corporate-level operations as it can manage multiple sites collectively. With this system, we are confident that we can continue to offer better services to all our customers.
Mikie Yanagisawa, Manager, Web Design Group, Kitamura Co., Ltd. Design Department
Our company has decided to implement UniWeb with the goal of providing a web environment accessible to all customers equally. As part of that process, at the suggestion of President Yanagisawa, we also recommended the implementation of UniWeb to our group companies.
Personally, I consider accessibility measures an important topic, and I am grateful for the opportunity to deepen my understanding through discussions with various companies, including Kiva, shortly after obtaining a Universal Color qualification.
With the introduction of UniWeb, we hope that more users, including those with disabilities, will be able to use the site comfortably. We also hope to demonstrate our commitment to an inclusive digital environment through our efforts.
◾️What is Web Accessibility?
It is not a special accommodation only for the disabled or elderly, but anyone can be in the same situation as a disabled person.
- Temporary injury or illness (e.g., car accident with arm in cast and unable to use arm, eye disease with eye patch and blindness, etc.)
- Age-related changes
- Age-related vision loss (presbyopia, lens changes (yellowish, dark, blurred vision, etc.))
- Eye diseases common in middle-aged and older adults (cataracts, glaucoma, etc.)
*About half of the patients in their late 70s have cataracts with yellowing changes. - Age-related hearing loss
- Foreign travelers (if a foreigner who does not understand Japanese is struck by an earthquake while traveling, can he/she obtain evacuation information, etc.)

◾️About UniWeb
UniWeb provides web accessibility features "on the day of deployment" by simply adding a single line of code to all web services.
In order to achieve equal website services for all, we want to put users in various situations, such as those with visual impairments or those who temporarily lose the use of their hands due to injury, in a position to understand correct information through various uses such as voice reading and contrast changes.
