Kiva Corporation (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Kota Nojiri, hereafter referred to as Kiva) has started providing the web accessibility service 'Uniweb' on sites operated by Gakken Method (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Tetsuji Yamashita, hereafter referred to as Gakken Method).

With the amendment of the Disability Discrimination Elimination Act on April 1, 2024, web accessibility compliance has become mandatory, and we have decided to address this promptly on each site within Gakken Method. The Digital Agency sets 'JIS X 8341-3:2016' as the evaluation criteria, and within the Gakken Group, we have internally reviewed all aspects, including cost and technology, in responding based on this standard.

We determined that Uniweb, provided by Kiva, was the most suitable option due to reasons such as its simple and rapid implementation, cost savings compared to outsourcing costs, and not requiring our company's response during new features or version upgrades.

They always responded quickly to concerns and questions, and their generous support was a key factor in our decision to implement. We are very grateful.

 

◾️What is Web Accessibility?

It is not a special accommodation only for the disabled or elderly, but anyone can be in the same situation as a disabled person.

• Temporary injury or illness (e.g., car accident with arm in cast and unable to use arm, eye disease with eye patch and blindness, etc.)
• Age-related changes
• Age-related vision loss (presbyopia, lens changes (yellowish, dark, blurred vision, etc.))
• Eye diseases common in middle-aged and older adults (cataracts, glaucoma, etc.)
  *About half of the patients in their late 70s have cataracts with yellowing changes.
• Age-related hearing loss
• Foreign travelers (if a foreigner who does not understand Japanese is struck by an earthquake while traveling, can he/she obtain evacuation information, etc.)
